A Cup of Cool Water

Mat 25:35 ‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;
Mat 25:36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
Mat 25:37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?
Mat 25:38 ‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?
Mat 25:39 ‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
Mat 25:40 “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
Mat 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
Mat 25:42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;
Mat 25:43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’
Mat 25:44 “Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’
Mat 25:45 “Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
Mat 25:46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

These scriptures seem like a little gospel of works. Normally we have a gospel of believing in Jesus or faith. If you do these things you inherit the kingdom of the Father. If you don’t do them you get eternal fire. Thats what my Bible says. So it is reward or punishment for doing or not doing these things.
It could be a matter of finding opportunities. If you don’t have opportunities then you could make some. Its possible you might start a ministry to feed the hungry. Thats what Pastor Jim did here. If you are able you can cook some food and give it to some hungry people. They are everywhere, everyday. Some people give some of their commodities that they don’t need to us. You might want to volunteer at the hospital or start a homeless shelter with the help of the government.
But on a smaller scale have somebody over for dinner that is having a hard time financially. Give away a case of cold water on a hot summer day on the street. Visit a friend who is sick with a cold or someone you know in jail. That is a favorite of mine. Many things you can do that seem to totally bypass religion. But remember this is what divided the sheep and goats, the righteous and accursed at the end of their lives. These things you might say are what righteous people will do. Doesn’t it seem like this? But do it in Jesus Name.
There are other ways to be rewarded: Faith- believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved; coupled with enduring to the end and you will be in heaven. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding and He will make your path straight. Trust in the Lord. These are the most common ones.
Whoever loses his life for My sake will find it- both in a spiritual sense and a real sense. Works will get you rewarded. Spiritual qualities can get you rewarded- like trust in the Lord. In this day when trusting people is so hard it is a real challenge to trust a God you can’t see for tangible items like food. Its not impossible though. It’s just the work of a relationship. So cultivate your spiritual qualities like love , trust, and hope to make your life full and a blessing.

Why the Struggles?

Often I tell God if you would do this or this I would do that and that.  It’s like trying to make deals with Him!  I know, I’m struggling and in a hurry.  But these things take time.  So often I am in a process of praying and making lists and trying to convince Him to act.  He doesn’t answer all our prayers right away.  I think that what I have is intolerable, but only so much I am able to do right now.

If he won’t take away the intolerable right now after much prayer, what can we do about it?  Can an unsaved man see and act on the scriptures?  No, he can’t, not without the Holy Spirit.  Can anyone evade their worst temptation ever?  Yes often, but not without the Holy Spirit.  Think of the destruction we bring on ourselves by not getting saved.

Can a person build a company without God?  Yes even if it is not God’s will as we see in porn sites and scams.  Some people say, ‘We can do anything we can conceive and believe’. (Middle Me, WordPress)  Funny it seems who is going to make it possible, high interest rates?  This is a major theme on WordPress, not on Jesus blogs but others.

Yet while others do great exploits and defy the odds and accomplish anything they can conceive I can’t make one hair white or black without God or by worrying.  It takes prayer.  God must be so bored with me not attempting to swim the Atlantic Ocean or cure cancer or explore the deep recesses of space.

Just one little life with boundaries will do for me.  Some things I would never try, some people I will never meet.  So should I throw off the shackles of a finite life and bag my wife and all that I have and give it to the poor and run to Paris?  No we stay practical and stay married because we are happy, and God hates divorce.  We don’t do anything crazy because the little people are the base, the security.  We give money to the local church, and etc.

Jesus won’t let me be a star, I tried that.  I think that’s what life has to teach most of us, that we’re not stars.  I have found a bit of truth and I’m hanging on to it.  I was fulfilling myself.  Now I’m fulfilling the Great Commission.

But why the struggles, we ask.  … We can have noble struggles.  Struggles develop dreams, and they teach us to overcome.  Some stars aren’t bright, but they are still stars.  Life happens in the mundane too, when you have Jesus.  Jesus reaches way down here to me and makes my life worthwhile.  With Jesus, life can be always good.

What You Say You Are

The spoken word is very powerful.  If we say something it is often the                      power-of-suggestion and it carries great weight and people and things can go in that direction. Pro 10:19  When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, But he who restrains his lips is wise.  Many people, parents and teachers, believe you should watch what they say.  You can give a hurt that will change the face of a kid, change their innocence and send them in the wrong direction.

People are easily influenced by money or friends, by a word about themselves.  I’m afraid to talk about people for fear of hurting them.  Life is erosive so much stress and resistance from insensitive contacts.  People do talk and the temptation to run or fight is great.  Just humans and pleasure, evil and the constant grinds of our minds to judge things, these are temptations that wear us down.  They erode the absolute, the pure, and the strong.  I think that is what has happened to us.  Thanks to God that with Christians, ‘all things work together for good to them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.’

We should watch what we say to and about our peers.  We should be careful what we call ourselves.  I think if we decide we are such and such or we think we are like someone else we become more like that person or thing.  We say we are bad and have no conscience about it, at that point you have opened the door to becoming.  It becomes easier to go through that door, because that is what we think and opportunities will be presented to us.  We have to make a decision, ah, ‘what would Dave do’?  ‘How would a partier decide what to do with these people’?  What if I decide or an influential person says you are neurotic and you believe that one.  Some would try not to be it, but others would give up and be it; denigrating their natural.  We could be on the edge and fighting.  Like a kid with a little homosexual tendency who with a little help will become like his parents.  This should truly only happen to straight families but doesn’t.  But, Jesus did not want our consciences offended by seeing the opposite of what we feel is true take place.  We are responsible to our brothers or sisters consciences to let them be who they are. Romans14:21

But don’t bother with diagnoses of emotional troubles.  They will just weigh you down and change you.  Don’t take on all that heaviness.  That’s what Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapels said.  He thought it was unnecessary to carry around with you.  If you give up and accept that diagnosis, it shouldn’t be your identity.  Meds are OK, therapy is OK.  You are who you are.  Jesus Loves You and wants to have a relationship with you in reality, just you and Him and your church.  He is right where you are so, do not be so hopeless.

Stolen Lives

Jesus said, ‘my soul has become troubled’.  But ya know He was going to die a death worth being troubled about.  It was so close, every detail known.  He had to be brave and honorable.  He pretended for a time like there was nothing going on, but it got progressively worse.  He sweat great drops of blood, they pulled his beard out, He was whipped with lead and glass.

It helps to mention it and go into detail, because He and they were not messing around.  The meekest, gentlest guy- they wanted to remove Him from the face of the earth for a sin supposedly, which the father would forgive in Jesus Name.  He acted like the Son of God, but He was really.  He healed all their sick, removed all their demons.  Gave their recently brought back to life kids to them restored.  The Pharisees were so blind.  Blind rage, totally not what they were posing as.

His terrible death comforts me too.  I never experienced anything of its kind, not as painful, as isolating or cruel.  I could just shine-on all I go through right now in the light of what I have just said above.  Heavy troubled hearts…, Jesus had it worse.  Jesus died for us and our sins.  Jesus died so we could be rewarded for going through these awful, crippling, life threatening struggles.  We all have them don’t we?

The pointlessness the profitless struggles every day, only to have it repeat a little different the next day.  I’m sorry, but I had to take a break from it to write this to escape.  It’s OK.  Find something to do.  It’s OK, struggles to maintain freedom from the status quo.

That right there makes me feel better, but there is no cure.  Involve Jesus in the solution and at the end it will have been for a reason.  They will get you somewhere: freedom from it and a really fine life, better than all your dreams.  There is strength in Jesus, compassion and comfort.  It doesn’t take it away but he gets you through.  I bet you thought a schizophrenic could never get to heaven.  He or she can.  And the Christian people on schizophrenia.org, who are so cool and get their point across… Hang in there.

The Missing Link

Often I tell God if you would do this or this, I would do that and that.  It’s trying to make deals with Him; because I’m struggling to get beyond a certain condition in my mind that is absolutely intolerable! We’re so often, being in a process of prayer and lists, convincing Him.

But what can we do?   Can an unsaved man see and act on the scriptures?  No he can’t, not w/o the Holy Spirit.  Can anyone evade their worst temptation ever?  Yes, often.  Can a person build a company without God?  Yes, even if it’s not His will, as we see in porn sites and scammers.  Some people say ‘we can do anything we can conceive and believe’, (Middle Me).   Funny, it seems who is going to make that possible?  High interest rates?

Yet while others do great exploits and defy the odds and accomplish anything they can conceive, I can’t make one hair white or dark without God.  I don’t get to accomplish anything without prayer or unless it is His will.  He must be so bored with me not attempting to swim the Atlantic Ocean or cure cancer.  Not even to send an object like a desk into a black hole, so possible.

Just one little life with boundaries will do.  Some things I would never try, some people I will never meet.  So, should I throw off the shackles of finitude and bag my wife and all that I have give to the poor, and run to Paris?  No, we stay practical and stay married because we are happy.  We don’t do anything crazy, because the little people are the base, the security.  We give the money to the banks, etc.

Jesus won’t let me be a star, I tried that.  It’s not in the cards.  I’ve found a bit of God’s will and I’m hanging on to it.  I’ve been fulfilling this person, now I’m fulfilling the Great Commission.

But, why the struggling, to stay in one place?  Noble struggles, dreams; black dwarf stars are spent.  Life happens in the mundane too.  Jesus reaches way down here and makes life worthwhile.  So, why not quit complaining!

Blessings When We Become Saved

2Co 8:7 But just as you abound in everything, in faith and utterance and knowledge and in all earnestness and in the love we inspired in you…

The Corinthian Church had a lot of problems. They had sexual immorality, they were split into differing groups following exceptional men, and they were ineffective in their use of spiritual gifts. Paul tries to correct these problems by writing them the letter of First Corinthians. He was rather stern but in Second Corinthians he changes his tone. He is much more joyful at first and proceeds this way for nine chapters. Then his tone changes again. But in chapter eight when he wants to talk about money, he says some pretty interesting blessings that the Corinthians have. He wants them to be abundant. That is what this scripture is about.

He very generously states that they are abundant in everything. There were some poor Christians in the church, but the Corinthians were generally well off. Corinth was a prosperous port city doing trade and was a gateway to Asia Minor. The poor could easily have become fairly prosperous in this city by getting plentiful jobs. The blessings of the Lord made them have more material things like food. I remember getting my best job ever, shortly after giving my life to the Lord- new home, everything. Others have too.

Then the spiritual gifts God gives: Faith. You take that leap and you believe God and you get forgiven but then it grows by leaps and bounds and you become fairly confident in your faith. You endure your life and what good it brings. The daily working out of your faith of unwrapping the gift that God has given you for the day is a nice change. You live by it, and your reading, so that your life is all new. Your faith is strong and you feel strong and you are not overwhelmed like before. That is what faith is for, strength when you need it. Faith to call on God and return to center to handle things.

You have faith, you read your Bible, you sure are blessed. You understand, you know what He is saying and you want to talk about it. You have utterance, you are blessed in speech. You may want to start a Bible study or go to the park and talk about the Lord with people. People need encouragement, people need hope and the Lord is the only way we know to do that. People need the Lord, He is positive, He is for us and He is a hope and strength when we need Him. Just reading the Bible- the stories and discussion is way more than any depression or down time or discouragement or confusion.

In the Bible you have knowledge of the heavenlies, science, the spiritual world. Why do so many not believe this spirituality, because this is how it is, this is the way it works and its proven in daily life. You can live it and be a part of it. Its not so mystical and it doesn’t take forever to learn and live just become a Christian. You’ve got power and everything. The only other thing spiritual there is living for the devil. And I guarantee it will keep you guessing and wondering and being confused. That is what the devil wants, is to keep you away from Jesus. Almost every thought you have to deny Jesus is inspired by the devil. Because you don’t believe in him, you don’t have Jesus and you want to hear something spiritual so the devil works and you think things that keep you off balance– whose left, only Jesus. But you need to make peace with Him and stop fighting Him and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. Then comes knowledge of God and of the spiritual. You can be yourself and God comes right where you are. He is your friend and He wants to know you.

They were abundant in all diligence- He made them good students. They heard what they wanted because they had a new hunger for God. They thirst and hungered for righteousness and they got it, they were filled. They had a good teacher. They searched the scriptures, one book, they found the answers. Not only in all diligence they were refreshed in trying. God wants to help you, He wants you to be fairly satisfied with HIM. To have confidence and trust and lean into His love like a Daddy. To ask Him for what you will and He will give it. But I like to add ‘within reason’. He doesn’t want to satisfy our lusts and if we ask for that He won’t do it. He won’t murder anybody and He won’t often make us rich. But the spiritual He likes to give. He wants us to pray and be determined so He can get you to a secure place.

He has given us bountiful love. This version puts ‘that we have inspired’ the New King James leaves it out, it puts ‘for us’. That is a priceless gift to be loved and to be able to love others and God. I bet some of you got so done on your love it wasn’t an issue. Just zop and down you go for a bodily function. Real love when you are married is much better.

So what I’m trying to say is that these are ways that God blesses us and makes us new. He renews our lives, makes them more interesting and better. You don’t have to be like the worst Christian you ever met. Be yourself and God will accept you and your peers will learn to accept you. There aren’t too many churches like the Corinthian church anymore. Some pastors have their churches all figured out. Come study and grow.

Introduction To Invitation

Joh 12:23 And Jesus *answered them, saying, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
Joh 12:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
Joh 12:25 “He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.
Joh 12:26 “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
Joh 12:27 “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
Joh 12:28 “Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”

Jesus has said this as an answer to some Greeks who wanted to see Him. Philipp and Andrew told Jesus and this is what Jesus said to them in answer. It was really not out in the middle of no where but was said to the Greeks and it has a ring of truth for us all. I don’t see why some of you don’t believe it. Jesus is profound Jesus is smart and He puts so much effort into it, so much thought.
He is saying He doesn’t have time its almost time to be crucified. He must be planted in the earth and die to bear much fruit to that martyrdom. Jesus did everything in a big way. He does not love His life and He coaches the Greeks to do the same. Don’t love your life or you will lose it. If it is good for you here you have no hope for the future. But if it just so happens that you hate your life here, because its not perfect and there are struggles and if he turns to Jesus… He will keep his life to life eternal.
And Jesus example was to lose His life and to obey the Father better than anyone else and become eternal. Then He tells the Greeks to serve Him and follow His sayings and be His servant. Be His servant and be where He is both in body and spirit and receive honor from the Father. This honor will be seen in joy and strength and love and understanding. The Father will give him eternal life.
But now Jesus bows humbly and admits that he is troubled by having to die this way. But He is determined and He understands His mission to die. He knew that it was going to come and He has been preparing Himself all along for this terrible death. He stays troubled and goes through the agony in the garden where he sweat great drops of blood in His anticipation of it happening. He knew, so He said everything the way the Father told Him. He did all the miracles that He should have. He laid out the perfect way to heaven and loved and encouraged and blessed. And if you don’t see it its going to take a little more time and prayer. And if it doesn’t excite you, keep trying. And if it doesn’t help you to see then you should come to church and study with us. A personal invitation to you all to come and understand Jesus little by little bit by bit until the picture gets bigger and you can see it. WED night at 7 and sunday at 10. The Old Testament on wed and the new on Sunday.
