Joh 10:11  I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Joh 10:12  But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

Joh 10:13  The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

Joh 10:14  I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

Joh 10:15  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Joh 10:16  And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd.  Shepherds fight with enemies like bears, cougars and wolves.  Sometimes they have to kill their enemies, because they are hungry, ravenous and want to hurt the sheep.  They forget there is a man around that has sharp implements and can kill them.  That he is willing to lay down his life to protect the sheep.  But he is not talking about physical enemies of sheep.  He wants to give His life by execution to give them something to hold on to and a reason to live- for forgiveness.  He drives the wolf off and the wolf could be the devil.  We know the devil and how to fight him since we are not ignorant of his devices.

The hired hand is tending the sheeps, he is not invested in them and has no part in the harvest.  He doesn’t care about the sheep and is not the owner.  Jesus is not talking about sheep but the flock of believers.  Jesus and Pastors are called to care and He cares the best.  I am the good shepherd He says. People who know Him relate to His goodness and strength, His love and teachings.  They know the truth.  We all think we know Him and fear.  We sometimes stay away from Him when we are guilty and don’t want His conviction.

The Father knows Him and it is enough for Jesus to give His life for the sheep.  Their relationship as Father and Son is all Jesus needs to obey the Father.  Jesus has been a Son in heaven all along and is the perfect offshoot of their connection.

God didn’t make any other life on any other planet except maybe plant life in my imagination.  So I think these UFO sightings are a figment of the devil.  I’ve seen some of the pictures.  The devil is trying to make a small thing out of the earth and its destruction.  He is trying to undermine the importance of this earth.  If we go on to other planets it will seem small and far away.  If we destroy it and then fight alien wars too the sacrifice of Jesus here will have no meaning.  When in actuality it is everything.  He doesn’t want us making a decision for Christ.  We should make that decision and then go on to other planets.  But without Christ we will just die and go to hell and we will be forgotten and our lives will be in vain.

Make that decision for Christ and tell Him you want to give your life to Him. Tell Him to forgive your sins and that you are genuinely sorry.  Ask Jesus to be your Savior.  Repent and be saved.  Maybe God won’t end it till after we get to Alpha-Centauri.  But now we are planning for His soon return.

To Lay Down My Life

Joh 10:17  Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

Joh 10:18  No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

It sounds funny to hear that Jesus thinks the Father loves Him, for we all know that God loves everybody.  I think He means that God loves Him extra for the good work He is doing.  Making the great sacrifice He did, doing the new thing by His death on the cross.  God loves Him more for being so obedient to HIM, maybe even more than all of us.

I made this point one other time in a message that Jesus gave His life of His own free will to pay for the sins of many, or the whole world.  Not just of those who believe but the whole world.  If you believe this and ask for forgiveness you get forgiveness.  You get to be a Christian when you give your life to God as a follower of Christ.  But to believe that Jesus is the forgiver of sins is what we are talking about, by His death on the cross.  It’s a package deal you can’t have forgiveness and not be a follower.  You say that Jesus is the Son of God and died for your sins to forgive us and knowing this you would naturally want to follow Him.  It would be such a relief from our guilt and He being responsible would be your God.  So Jesus gave His life after He said ‘it is finished’.  He left His body and went to paradise and he had another itinerary but that’s another story.

Jesus said I have authority to lay down my life and take it up again.  The father gave Him this authority which he had, to do whatever He did.  In fact we need Gods authority to do whatever we want to do or it won’t happen.  Jesus had a special calling to lay down His life and to rise again.  But most of us will not do that on our own, not until God is ready.

God said you can do nothing without me.  He said I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.  He said, ’I can’t do the things I wish because of my flesh’.

There are many things we want to do but can’t because we are not able, our flesh stops us.  But the things that God wants us to do, that He gives us authority to do we can, if we are in Christ ourselves and have His Holy Spirit.  We can’t be in Him without His help and forgiveness.  We won’t even know His will without believing the Bible.  But if we need Him enough to be a Christian, He will help us and strengthen us to make that great proclamation or declaration to God that we want Him for our Savior.  If we want Him to forgive us our sins, he will strengthen us for such a task, because it is His will that all get saved.

There are things that God will let us do in the strength of our flesh- we are able to sin in the depth of our soul.  Sometimes it will lead us to Christ.  Anything God would want us to do as Christians, we can do.  Where God calls He empowers.  Many things have been done by man you might say good things: buildings, bridges, armament, space exploration, royal families, nations, wars, civilizations, empires, but they have been done in the strength of mans flesh.  Some were the will of God that shaped the world.

Do they compare to God’s work?  These things God does: the rebuilding of lives, God’s church that the gates of hell won’t prevail against; the Bible, the way, the way to heaven and heaven itself- being built by God.  The New Jerusalem which is a city 1500 miles tall, wide and deep is one of God’s best works.  It’s coming.

There are things I want to do but can’t. There are things I don’t want to do but do them.  Sometimes I hate, ‘and you know that no murderer has eternal life flowing in himself’, while he is unrepented.  You can separate yourself from God and have no life but the life of your flesh.  Money won’t give you life only things; drugs and alcohol won’t give life, only a trip.  Any of man’s pursuits will only give you a temporary high.  Only Jesus has the words of eternal life and the authority to give it to whomever He wishes.

Jesus is a servant to the Father like a son.  He pleases the Father it has immense satisfaction for Him.  I have experienced some of it.  It is not perfected in me like it is in Jesus.  He is God of course.

Jesus fulfilled His mission after He died.  Preached to the captives and then He took up His life again in an immortal body.  Like which He will give to His people when he raises them from the grave and those who He raptures, soon hopefully.  And when that happens remember that it is not too late to accept Jesus and still go to heaven.  He loves you and made a way for all of us to get to heaven.  I hope you accept His offer of forgiveness and eternal life.

We only think of God like we learned of people, from other men and women when we were young.  Think of Him like a warm, loving, giving Father.  He is kind and gentle, supportive and then you will really know Him.

Be Free Even if Your Afraid

We are going on with speaking of God’s wisdom while reading 1COR2.  Paul tells us how he approached it when he went to Corinth and began to teach about Jesus.  He said he didn’t have certain qualities of a good public speaker, like the people in the cities he went to and the debaters of that time.  But he did have fear and trembling.  Being fearful helped him be humble and let the light of the gospel show through.  I think it was because he had fear of another beating like he had just gotten in Philippi.  Then coming here so soon after Philippi, there was a certain amount of fear of what might happen to him.

He was going to talk about the cross which seems like a limited subject, but it’s not really.  He could talk about the Law and freedom from it, the freedom from the law of sin and death or the present law of love.  Here are just a few possibilities for speaking which I am OK with.  He probably gave it all he had when he could.  He worked righteousness and a tent-making job and reasoned about the scriptures there too.  Paul didn’t use other men’s thought in his messages but what the lord had revealed to him personally.

Christians do have wisdom received from Paul’s writings so he didn’t teach anything empty of meaning- the cross has great meaning.  He did not digress into the worlds reasoning to explain the Lords knowledge.  He only talked about philosophy to say ‘don’t go there’.  He used worldly wisdom perhaps to say how Christianity differs and to separate it from it being integrated into the faith.  He didn’t want it there.  Paul wanted the unbeliever to be able to see the contrast.  To Christians it is all about the cross and the spirit rather that logic and cleverness.

The Spirit can be very high and spacey.  He is not born of despair and destitution like Nietzsche’s thought.  He gives freely of the things of God- positive, holy, pure.  He knows God’s thought like we know our own spirit.  Sometimes people get confused and talk like the world- lustily, sinfully.  But Christians know what God wants and pull themselves up to His standard after those times.  So we grow  toward God.

We don’t have the spirit of the world but the Spirit of God to remind us and empower us.  When we read the Bible we can think His thoughts and correct ourselves.  But we do fall into the flesh and it can cause trouble.  We think it’s better though when we see Jesus before us and can love correction enough to take it and start walking again with Him.

Many Christians have had an awakening in the spirit and are concerned about spiritual things – in others also.  To compare and talk about them to show others the direction again, to teach how God designed us and in a situation where we have been falling short, to explain and encourage and reason is a gift some have.  The Bible, conscience and guidance are common subjects of a Pastor to his flock, between friends and it helps to be open and honest.

A Christian can evaluate in the light of the Word his behavior and see if it is appropriate.  Relatives may have said things to us that have hurt us and changed us.  But when we see right action in the word and what God wants for us we can know if we are being truthful or just reacting to our past. I know if I am treating people as if I am still hurt or if I am being honest to their needs and who they are.  So we don’t have to stay in our pasts but we can live in the present with the people of God.  Being stuck in our hang ups is not where we want to be, even though we are sometimes.  But when we are alone with God all things work together for good.  We forgive and release the stress and have a new start and go farther.   Paul was fearful in his speaking but not in his one-on-one dealings with people.  It is more fearful to preach in a new town than to witness to one person.

1Co 1:23  but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,

1Co 1:24  but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1Co 1:25  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Rom 1:21  For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Rom 1:22  Professing to be wise, they became fools,

Paul and his team preached Christ crucified- the central part of the gospel.   Not eloquently, not logically, but God’s will.  Not glorifying men but Jesus.  Not trying to earn a quick buck but to assure men of a relationship with God and to give them eternal life through the cross in the way God framed.

This made Jews stumble because they could not change the law.  The law was given by God but they thought it would be with them forever.  God hadn’t spoken to them for 400 years, they were to the eye following the law but to the hearts not at all.  They didn’t believe they had broken the first covenant.  God changed but they hadn’t.  God brought in a totally new covenant.  The Jews as I say were half faithful to the old so they missed the Messiah.

When the Greeks were told the gospel of forgiveness of sins because of the cross, they thought it was foolishness.  So some folks wouldn’t believe in Jesus for salvation.  But many did believe and received from Him such as the Son of God had to give.

Both Jews and Greeks did believe though and to these who were called, Christ’s gospel is the power of God and the wisdom of God.  The power, because He can take a life divided against itself and turn it into something stronger and happier.  Something broken or not working, He can make a beautiful person out of.  He is not done with me yet.  But I have changed a lot and have grown.   He put me into the low exercise group for a while, like the Marine’s does, but now I can handle the trials of my life.  Ya see how God works, it is all about Him, and we can ogle what He wants to do to form our holiness and improvement concerning life, just look at the good things you are not.   He is a loving heavenly Father.  He loves His children and knows what’s best for them.  Trust God.

So it is the power to love, change and help until we are mature. Maturity is a good word about fully functioning personally as a human being or Christian.  It is also the wisdom of God that we should be mature, because He knows how people should be- as a person, handling people and reality.  He doesn’t want proud people but humble people, because proud people won’t listen.  They think they know it all and don’t want to learn Gods way.  Love:  love can be learned, love is a decision and acted out with the will.  It’s not phony and not ending.  If you want to love, you love and keep at it long after the feelings end.

God chose how He wanted to save people, whoever wants to be with Him.  He tests us, He sees if we want to obey Him with all our hearts.  He sees if we want to be pure and rewards us for being poor in spirit or merciful.  He also sees our character and develops it if we let Him.  Character and patience are two very important qualities in Gods kingdom.  It’s on the Holy Spirit to make us into these things.  But until we accomplish them failure keeps us humble.

That really makes it seem like the next verse is true.  Read vs. 25.  If the gospel is Gods foolishness you can tell by His power that it is His wisdom too.  It is wiser than men because God is smart enough to write the truth- no man can.  The Bible is the truth and Jesus is the focus.  He is the truth.  His life and death meant something to us- if you believe and repent, your sins are forgiven and you will have salvation.  It was Gods weakness to save men because He loves us.  Gods will to save men in many cases is stronger that his resistance.  The gospel is more powerful than all the philosophies and religions and governments and spiritual principalities and powers on earth.  The future will happen just as the Bible states and I hope you will be following by then.

Believe Jesus

Joh 8:42  Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me.

Joh 8:43  “Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word.

Joh 8:44  “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Joh 8:45  “But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.

Joh 8:46  “Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me?

Joh 8:47  “He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”

The Bible wants us to contend for the gospel.  That is exactly what JESUS is doing here.  He is using logic somewhat like a lawyer.  He narrows it down to the Pharisees are not of God.  So that they can’t hear Him.  In this chapter we have a long argument between Jesus and the Pharisees.  If we don’t want to believe something we just keep arguing.

Maybe it’s all right that they are blind and can’t hear.  They are still planning to kill Jesus so they are evil.  They can’t help it maybe.  But Jesus said that they are doing their fathers will and he is a liar and a murderer.  We see that…   in this chapter, they say sniyed remarks trying to make Him lose His cool, but He won’t do it.  Then He goes too far and commits blasphemy and they try to stone Him and get it over fast.  It’s not blasphemy though because He is God.  How does He hide Himself among the crowd if He is not GOD.  How does He rise again?  Ya know they never found a body after He died and rose again.  The Pharisees could have had the end of this matter if they could have produced a body for the empty grave.

These Pharisees were not the true priests of Israel. They were not of the priestly family.  Herod had appointed them.  They were just figure heads.  This is another reason they treated Jesus foolishly.  They were not very godly or holy men.

There is a God who doesn’t change.  He calls sin, sin, and He wants us to turn from ours and He gives great rewards when we do.  There is a God who has died for us and rose again.  Jesus is the forgiver of sins.  He came to earth.  He is relevant.  His word is truth even though the times have changed.  We don’t kill people for fornication and adultery like they did in Israel long ago.  But to God it is still wrong.

Now we have the law of love.  Love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and your neighbor as yourself.  But you can’t love God if you are fornicating and you can’t love people if you are committing adultery against them.  The times have changed but not God.

That is why the Bible is so important- because it is all about God.  That is why California wants to ban it in our stores because it speaks against fornication and adultery in whatever form. God wants us to turn from our sins: for new life, for reward in the afterlife.  This is as happy as we will ever be in this world without God.  But if we follow Him we will be happy with Him forever.

Favorite Verse

Last time we learned that Jesus does the same works He sees His Father do. Greater works so that we will marvel. We learned that both the Father and the Son raise the dead. Then too, a big subject that was opened up was judgment and I might do a message on that in the context of this chapter. There are four or five scriptures of this chapter I’d like to talk about. John 5:22 sets the context by saying ‘for not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son. If that doesn’t set off some whistles, you haven’t been to church lately. Then verse 5:23 makes Jesus equal to the Father by saying,’so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.’ That is why judgment was given to the Son so people would be nice to Him or honor Him. Isn’t that why we be nice to the judge in court? so that if he judges us it will be favorable. We should be nice to Jesus because He will judge us and we want Him to be nice to us. We must honor Him because it is the Father’s works He does. Remember all the great miracles Jesus did? Those were the Fathers works which let us know He has God as Father and so he is equal to God.
The next verse is one of the favorites of the entire Bible. In it we can learn how to receive spiritual life from Him so that we can escape judgment. This is from the ‘Believers Bible Commentary” paraphrased. It is John5:24. Great crowds of believers have become believers and acquired eternal life because of the importance of its meaning. It could be the case for it being a highly rated favorite is that it very clearly explains the way of salvation so very concisely. In many translations this verse begins with most assuredly or some truly truly. This expresses how important to Jesus it was in introducing it this way. Most assuredly appears seven times in the chapter- a very important chapter it is.
This is followed by,’I say to you’. The reason why this is significant is that the Son of God is about to speak to us in a personal and intimate way. All the words have meaning.
He who hears my word- To actually hear His word is to understand and believe and obey what He says, not just hear, its a life changing decision. Many people heard what happened but do absolutely nothing about it. So Jesus means that a believer must accept His teaching as divine and to regard as right and true that He is the Savior of the world.
The next phrase, ‘And believes in Him who sent Me’. It is a matter of accepting what God says as the truth. Does that mean you only have to believe Jesus is God? Many say they believe HIM but have never been converted. But he is trying to express that you must believe Him, that He sent Jesus into the world. He must completely realize the truth that God sent Jesus to be our Saiour – to save the world. He must also believe what God meant by sending Jesus, that He is the only Savior and that sins can only be dealt with through His work on Calvary.
‘     Has everlasting life’, You can see that he doesn’t say He will have everlasting life but that right now it is his, the believer. Jesus gives us His life. Which is higher quality and will go on forever. It is the spiritual life from the Savior and when received it is from being born again. This is spiritual eternal life not like the life he received at his first birth.
‘And shall not come into judgment’. This concept means he is not condemned now nor ever will be in the future. This one who believes in Jesus and the father who sent HIM is free from judgment because Christ has given him pardon from the penalty of his sins. Christ died as our substitute only once, and that is enough. He completed the work and nothing has to be added ever again. A Christian will never have to be punished for his sins.
‘But has passed from death into life’. We have proceeded out of death into a state of spiritual life. Before we get converted we are spiritually dead in trespasses and sins. He or she was dead to the love of God and fellowship with Him. By placing his faith in Christ the Holy Spirit came and lives in him and he possesses divine life.

oh 4:34 Jesus *said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.
Joh 4:35 “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.
Joh 4:36 “Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.
Joh 4:37 “For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’
Joh 4:38 “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”

Food is for energy and strength. Have you ever been so charged up by an activity that you put off eating for awhile. You could do this without eating because it was so interesting and absorbing as to be fuel in itself. This is what Jesus was feeling here.
Doing His Father’s will turned Him on so much He didn’t need to eat. Maybe he hadn’t eaten for a day or two because He was travelling and there was no food there.

Did He get tired and run down and not care. No He found His life in doing the Fathers will. He obeyed and evangelized and got strength from it. This is just one of the examples of Jesus finding a bubbling over pleasure in doing God’s will.
He wanted to talk to the woman at the well. He wanted to tell her about the Messiah and she and her whole town got saved. he put a little extra effort into it and a great thing happened. God will often reward our second wind or extra mile with success.
A few years ago I was passing out desserts here for the entire service of the meal. I could have quit but I didn’t and everybody got one. It brought so much joy to the people and the ministry proved its effectiveness.
I think the fields must be ripe for harvest now as then. But I keep thinking there is not much fruit to salvation or fruit to repentance now. I don’t see many getting saved or volunteering to help or having a good witness about the Lord. Pretty much silence about anything here.
Fruit to salvation would mean that we were being effective in peoples lives. That having something to eat and hearing the Word of God was leading people to let the Lords love in enough to have a changed life. Fruit to repentance would be being sorry for our lawlessness and wanting and doing, living a good life. That would be much cause for joy, both yours and ours.
We are content doing the Lords will, seving people. Giving food, water, shelter, warmth, a listening ear, clothes, and the love of God.
There must be so many atheists out there and people that are into other things. I read a letter from a atheist lady the other day and she had everything rationalized. Christians were the bad guys and they were the awesome people. That may be Ok for here on earth but it won’t fly on judgement day. She was living in the futility of her mind as it says in Ephesians. Her mind was set on the flesh and was experiencing a depraved mind, denying the truth. She was so deluded that I could not argue with her, nor did I want to. I kind of felt sorry for her because she was laughing herself into judgement. So, we can feel we are all right but if we are not following Christ we are in for trouble.
God is only good, its the devil we have to avoid. Spiritual warfare is the name of the game. You know this when you stand for the righteousness of Jesus. Then the world the flesh and the devil become your enemies and you have to fight almost hand to hand to keep free and to keep them from ruling your lives. That is how we stay free and in love with Jesus. Its hard and it is not like beating the air. It is real.
Many times going down the road my thoughts are blaring in my head and then they turn evil and are challenging me to dwell on evil but that is not what I want and I fight my flesh for control of my thoughts because God put me in control and I don’t want to sin in my thoughts. The world tries to tell me what to think and do too.      Therefore there must be a devil behind It. That experience of pure evil, denying all good and becoming overwhelming sometimes, I can’t be the only one. People have demons very often oppressing them and they can turn on others. That explains why some can’t endure the name Of Jesus. Christians are under attack and this is why- the spiritual truth – there are demons and haters of GOD.
Romans 1:30 according to Paul. He is our expert here.

I kind of took off in the opposite direction of these scriptures. The harvest must be ripe and it is in other countries like China and continents like Africa and the Middle East.
Anyway many got saved in Israel in Christs time and many more in Pauls time. It started with John the baptist and is still going. The Apostles were helping and then they became the main force. Many are waiting for a leader to come and fulfill the world. You will be surprised, he will be the anti christ.
