New Physical Birth?

We are in John 3 and Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus about being born again.   I think I deserve this chance to tell you about it.

 Joh 3:1  Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;

Joh 3:2  this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

God’s word has depth.  We can see three meanings for the word ‘see’ from above.  Three levels of meaning:  SEE meaning ‘go into’.  SEE meaning ‘understand’.  And SEE meaning, ‘he is blind in his spiritual eyes to see it coming or to see it before his eyes’.

You can’t go into it without the true faith, without emptying yourself and letting go of the spiritual world and its things in order to become full of spiritual things.  You can’t take them with you.  You can’t pursue them totally with all your heart and strength or you’ll get hurt.

You can’t understand being born again without your new spiritual understanding that you get by studying Gods Word.  If you put away worldly things you get hungry for spiritual understanding.  Man cannot live by bread alone but by God’s words too.  Man’s spirit hungers for understanding.  He finds answers in the Bible.

In our search for authenticity as Christians we must be born again.  If you believe, you have the Spirit of God and He leads and guides us to the truth of life.  When our mother’s water breaks we are born into physical life.  You just know you are born and it grows like a seed.  There isn’t a word for born again, you just know it.  Well, you understand, you have to experience it.  That is a leap of faith to a new level.

Over here is where salvation is.  I think Jesus knows what He is talking about.  Being born of the Spirit is a complete immersion and commitment.  I was so wrong before, trouble I was in, mistakes I was making.  A life of sin became impossible to cope with.  I feared hell and from trying all sorts of things I got confusion.  Jesus is always there saying ‘this is the way, come to me, I love you; you need me’.  He doesn’t condemn any more when you come to HIM.  He wants to heal us in our relationship to God, not harm us.

Jesus is the answer and He says to be born again which is a process.  Say to Him, ‘Lord I know I am a sinner, please forgive me for wronging you and others.  Send the Holy Spirit as my helper.  I forsake the unbalanced pursuit of mammon.  Come into my life so that I may live for you.  In Jesus name, Amen.

Watcha Looking For?

Joh 3:8  “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

You guys and girls are smart, but don’t you just feel dumb when somebody starts talking about this?  To compare the spiritual to the wind is baffling.  Highs and lows- who can predict the wind?  The same thing when a Christian starts talking about the Spirit, we really don’t know much about Him.  Where it comes from- that way; where it’s going- here!  So we talk about goodness, or strength or holiness.  God stuff.

There is always a day of reckoning.  Sin is good for a season and then it has a habit of turning south.  But it is really the sorrow for sin that makes us ready for salvation.  Not sorry you won’t care, but GOD is working.

So what is goodness?  We want good things; we want to feel good; want to be good and trouble free.  No one is good but God alone.  Live a holy life, be good to others.  Now you have a little knowledge about where God is coming from.

You don’t know the Holy Spirit until you experience Him.  Then you don’t know Him because he is particularly through you.  Where he wants to be is unknown, and what He wants from you, until obedience is formed and you start showing strengths.  Somewhat of a picture and a bit of security is in this.   That is what I’ve found when looking for His will.

Living with Afflictions II

Hos 5:15 I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early. This scripture reiterates that when we are sinning against God He goes away for a time and lets affliction have its way. Often times it leads back to God and we start to seek Him early, which is the holiest of times. Guilt is a good teacher, we can only endure it so long, then nature takes over and we back up, consider our pain and what is going to take it away, to make it go away. That happens in your lives doesn’t it when you are feeling spiritual or mental pain? We admit our offense and seek the removal of guilt. God is the only one who can remove it. He so often doesn’t though. He is trying to teach us something, that our love wouldn’t grow cold, that our patience would grow , too. And that we should endure pain to let it make something of ourselves to get somewhere, instead of being numb or confused. It works. He is not cruel, He knows the desire of our heart.

Pro 22:22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
God warns others not to rob the poor. Don’t rob the poor of anything, spiritual and emotional, too. Don’t even rob their self respect by giving them a hard time or of their joy by giving them hardship. Its not good to oppress people especially the down trodden and homeless, the poor and depressed. They will have a hard time getting up again. They are are often alone in the world. Sometimes we just do the best we can and we don’t need anymore hassles. It is a balanced thread you might say, very fragile. Its good to be aware of and care about people. Seems like there are so many doing badly. An encouraging word would be better. Sometimes I see alot of brotherhood amongst you being so often in the same boat as you are. But sometimes— where did that come from and we oppress each other a little don’t we? But I encourage you when you feel bad to try to think of something good for someone else. Then you can both share in the goodness.

Isa 30:20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:
See the Lord still promises us bread and water to eat. And it doesn’t say let not the teachers be removed into a corner but yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner anymore. What that means is— affliction brings out in you who your teachers are! When you get feeling under the weather and have all these questions that need answering… your mind will remind you of things you have read or what people have said— whatever words of wisdom that feels appropriate to the situation. The Lord is teaching you who your teachers are and whether it is the Lord or not. We just say whatever gets you through the night. But God thinks it is important that we are learning the right things from HIM. The things of salvation and treating our brothers right and loving God in the hard times. Mood swings might sway us a little but after or when we get in the word it will return and we can repent of whatever we have said or done. It is the care and nurturance of the Lord, don’t ever forget that.

Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
This scripture goes right along with what I just said. The Lord is refining us , his people, everyone, and He is going to get something good out of us. He is not refining us with silver, have you looked in your pockets lately? You know that. He has chosen His people in the furnace of affliction, but many of us are there. He doesn’t let anyone slip between the cracks. Why? God aspires to high things like a heaven full of worshippers with no one turned away.
Why do we want to be left alone, why won’t we aspire to a higher level, it’s not impossible, it’s good, just a slight change in attitude.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
He took our sorrows to the cross so that we don’t have to pay for them. That lightens our load. The lasting guilt that we would take to the grave and through life, that would possibly make us die young we don’t have to bear very long its not permanent. Maybe we have guilt feelings once in a while, but they don’t have to kill us, they don’t have to direct where we go for eternity, we really don’t pay for them in eternity. Just repent. He took our stuff to the cross and we called Him an executed one. That God struck Him down for blasphemy, we say. He died for all our sins and we called Him sinner and a liar and troubled. Totally we blamed Him for what happened and called it an evil death but it was all good for us! He accomplished salvation for us, He appeased GOD and made Him our friend. He sent Paul to organize us and again they fought him and God and killed Paul. For being a Christian! For loving God, for saying man is a sinner and not perfect. They are still fighting that.

So my point is:

Isa 63:9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

He was afflicted for our afflictions- sin what not. You can see phrase by phrase what this means for us , for the point of this message, it has all fallen into place. He saved us the angel saved us for our trouble and God gives us a reward in the after life. He redeemed us just as He said in His love and in His pity- greater love hath no man. He carried His people and He carries us now to that salvation kicking and screaming that we want out or to off ourselves. But don’t; He has good intended for us, a reward and rest. If that is still not enough… you can take it, come into His comfort, give Him an inch, it is worth it to come out from your burden, others give it to HIM. There is freedom out there and its in Jesus Christ.

Keeps is for KEEPS

Joh 7:15  And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

Joh 7:16  Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

Joh 7:17  If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Joh 7:18  He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

Joh 7:19  Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

Joh 7:15  The Jews then were astonished, saying, “How has this man become learned, having never been educated?”

Joh 7:16  So Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.

Joh 7:17  “If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.

Joh 7:18  “He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Joh 7:19  “Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”

Jesus was learned.  He learned from the Father everything He taught.  The Father is into obedience and he knew the law- Jesus did.  He knows everything. Don’t ever try to argue with Him- you’ll lose for sure.  Jesus said,’ give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s’.  He said, ‘we neither marry nor are given in marriage’.  He knew we would be like angels in heaven, with spiritual bodies.  Marriage is only helpful on earth and we will be so complete that we won’t need a mate up there.  He said we will be eaten out with worms and in fire if we go to hell.

He said things so that you knew He was God.  He made it obvious His intelligence and knowledge of the afterlife so that you knew that he knew.  Why some of us don’t know now is the question.  But Jesus did and His answers satisfy me.  I trust Him in faith.

Here is a story or explanation of John 7:17.  One who is willing to do His will… it seems like a key to getting saved.  When one finally gets over being afraid of God and doing His will that’s when God acts and takes two steps closer.  If you are searching but willing to do His will you will look toward Jesus and get to know of His teachings.  Any healthy searcher looks at Jesus because of His claims, His power, His wisdom.  You will know of the teaching because you are not afraid of Jesus anymore and are willing to go to the highest heights to please Him.

I like the KJV for some purposes it is very blunt and correct.  It uses words that you can trip on and are pregnant with meaning.   When I first read it I was tripping all the time. It made me study to narrow down the possibilities of meanings.  But it didn’t, they all have become important in their times.  Other translations are good and true but they leave less to the imagination and sometimes limit themselves.

In the KJV, 7:15 ‘marvelled’, is less violent than ‘astonished’ in the NASB.  It is admirable and there is no fear of being overwhelmed.  They enjoyed what he said and it found a place in them, a warm place.  He was smart in word usage and what He conveyed was real and for humans.  But humans kind of mess that up sometimes.  And keepeth or keeps, NASB uses ‘carries out’ which is too everyday for Jesus, not absolute enough for me.  He keeps a law or carries out an order from a man, but keeps is for keeps…haha.

Jesus is arguing and persuading like a lawyer and then he gives an example which we might do sometime.

A Bit of Comfort for the Afflicted

  1.   The state of being afflicted; a state of pain, distress, or grief.

Some virtues are seen only in affliction.

2.   The cause of continued pain of body or mind, as sickness, losses, calamity, adversity, persecution.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous. Psa 34.

Love, joy, hope patience are virtues.  These seem like virtues too.

God brings men into deep waters not to drown them but to cleanse them.  And Burton said, ‘as thrashing separates the corn from the chaff, so does affliction purify virtue.  I have known no man of genius who had not to pay in some affliction or defect, either physical or spiritual for what the gods had given him.  Anonymous quote.

2Ch 20:9  If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

Normal worldly afflictions and severe.  Then there are the personal ones, no money or inside oneself.  Mental illness, nothing wrong with that, just hard to put up with.  Drug addiction is hard to handle.  Such a need for money everyday.  How about the need to be recognized and always plugging yourself, just not getting enough.

Job 30:16  And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.

Affliction can be often temporary, but it can last a lifetime.  While we are in it, it seems like many days.  Sometimes we get used to it, sometimes we can’t cope and seek help.  God has promises for the ones who are enduring what they can’t cope with.  He holds them together and gives them a whole book to understand.  He shows them they are not the only ones.  He teaches by experiences, if we hang in there we learn things by attaining to his standards.

Job 34:28  So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.      You are not alone in the numbers of people who are going through the same thing and in God who has a consistently sympathetic ear for His children in trouble.

Job 36:15  He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.

Listen to Him and for Him.  We will listen to about anything but tune in to God.  He can say something that will lift your spirits or put room between you and your distress, give you joy or a word of wisdom that will lighten the load if your listening.

Psa 25:18  Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.   This is David speaking.  It helps to bare our souls to someone mainly God and to put our guilt behind us, eliminating one more problem causing pain and getting down to the base cause.

Psa 90:15  Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

Only God brings lasting joy and He will do it in the midst of a trial.  Haven’t you admired someone who can laugh at a hardship, now you may be able too.  Joy in trials, bitter laughter but laughter.  Having time to enjoy someone else’s life and having time to forget your own.

Jas 5:10  Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

Psa 119:50  This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.

  1. Made alive; revived; vivified; reinvigorated.

  1. Accelerated; hastened.

  1. Stimulated; incited.

Psa 119:67  Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

Psa 119:71  It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

When we have pain it brings out our need for God.  Some of us.  We want to be good and excel even at the law.  There was much comfort in knowing the ways of God and what rewarded us and what didn’t.  Bad things happen with everything, rejection and stuff.  Now we have the law of love to follow, very rewarding, much simpler, but people will even reject that, just not ready.  But if we are not doing anything wrong we will have an easier life.  God’s spirit will build up and make us stronger.  Someone said that if we ‘don’t have the strength to endure adversity we have small strength’.  But if we endure with joy our strength grows.

Doors Are Opening

Joh 10:7  So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

Joh 10:8  “All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.

Joh 10:9  “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Joh 10:10  “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Joh 10:11  “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

This is another story Jesus tells as though He was something.  Like when He said I am the way, the truth and the life.  I am the Door.  Jesus said He is the only way to the Father, Mat 22:16  And they *sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any.

They may have been trying to do evil to Jesus but they did witness to His truth.   Jesus was the life:  Joh 1:4  In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

I am the door of the sheep.  He was the good shepherd but no one came to be a sheep except through the door.  The sheep could be the church or the bride of Christ.  It could ultimately be heaven.  But you have to go through the door to get there.   Jesus says I am the door go through me.  Become His disciple,  believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.  I am the door of the sheep.  All who came before me were thieves and robbers and look, they have the same purpose as the devil-  to steal, kill and destroy.  And he has quite an armory of weapons but Christians are not ignorant of his sneakiness, deception and treachery.  He can lie, tell half truths, appear to be giving light, invade your mind, be darkness and feed you to the dogs.  He doesn’t have any truth in him so he will feed you a string of lies and try to get you to bite on one and then bend the universe in your mind around the one you bite on.  That’s deception.

If you will forgive me for saying so but all the other so-called ways to perfection are instigated by the devil including UFOs.  They are all intended to move you away from the truth which is Jesus Christ and he has done a fine job as you can see so many millions in each other religion.  Thats not pride or arrogance just the fact that Jesus is the only way.  He has everything you could want in a master.  But the main message is His promise of eternal life in heaven of being there , having arrived, completion and glory.

Thats what we want- to be saved from this life of suffering, from our sins, and from hell.  How many of you have it so good, you don’t want to be saved??     He is not forcing you.  It is your choice, but now that you know don’t you want to be with a winner??   Don’t just dabble in it but come into the light.  Invest yourself, stay a good long while.  Jesus keeps His promises, He does what He says and you will grow.  If you are into drugs and alcohol you can’t grow because you are not sure of what is happening, things don’t add up.  You’re maybe having fun but you stay on that plane.  You are not yourself anymore.  You are not fighting the world anymore, the elements, just kinda floating along.  You get stuck in rebellion and get separated from life and certainly from eternal life.  I don’t know about pot now that it is legal but there still is an addiction there.

If the devil can separate you from yourself, all your hopes and aspirations your determination and focus, he has pretty much gotcha.  We get religion to make up for past mistakes to make life better in a spiritual way, to heal, to undergo discipline and to grow.  Nothing like a little resistance to grow.  Meditation is we think an easy discipline and I know guys who have a life but they are dying in their sin, literally.  They don’t have anything to lead them out of bad habits- sin. They do not have a moral basis for living.  They are kind of stuck in repeating whatever it is they do for pleasure.  Christians are known for their good clean fun in whatever it is they are doing.   Jesus came that we would have life abundantly, especially life in the afterlife.  We have life except where we are limited in some way and where we limit ourselves with sin.  But Jesus life is even going , even reaches out to our trials and problems.  He says to have joy in trials and pleasure in afflictions.  You are not going to stop the things from happening but you can learn peace and joy and other values when you are suffering.  God will help you.

Jesus is for the poor and for the suffering He wants to give you rest from your restless searching and trying things.  He wants to be the One and have you be settled and taken care of in Him.  Safe from false teachers and resting in His righteousness.
