Bible prophecy is very authoritative.  We should know the Messianic prophecies.  To know what the Bible is saying and that it is a powerful book, look at what GOD says will happen.  Sometimes you can find the fulfillment of the prophecy recorded in the Bible or one can find it in a history book.  If a prophecy is fulfilled all or part of the time, you have a very important work and can believe all of the great things it is saying.  This is an example of the credibility of this work and what it means to its authenticity- if the prophecies are too fulfilled, it is believable.

‘My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?’   Is the first prophecy I want to look at and it is from Psalm 22:1.  This is a Messianic prophecy and it is what Jesus actually said on the cross.  He was actually forsaken by the Father and as Psalm 22 :3 lets on, because Jesus was holy.  He was the pure and spotless lamb.  He was the Son of God and never committed a sin so He was the only one worthy to die for our sins as a sacrifice.  He was the only one worthy, the only one able to do this.  He took on all the sins of humanity- against God, against people, even against the earth and became sin for us and God turned his back on Jesus and He died in separation from God.  He died like He was going to spend or had spent an eternity in hell for all our sins, so we wouldn’t have to.  That’s love, because in no way were we going to make it to heaven or justification because we just could not quit doing wrong.  But Jesus did no wrong- He suffered and died for us.  This was because of God’s nature and His way with sin like it says in Habakkuk 1:13

‘Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, And You can not look on wickedness with favor.’

Just too good to approve evil is God.  So He had to forsake Jesus just like He would do to all of us if we didn’t repent.

Next we find that Jesus was the son of Abraham.

Gen 12:2  And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing;

Gen 12:3  And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Gen 22:18  “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

These are Messianic prophecies of the Messiah Jesus and they were said to Abraham who was to be blessed in his seed, of one- Jesus.  These are words quite a lot like when Jesus was to be here on earth too.  God made His name great and He blessed Him and many others and cursed those who cursed Him and those who accepted Him were blessed and they got eternal life.  Jesus saved them from the Law of Sin and Death.  They could now have a relationship with God and they found a new way to go.

Don’t get confused thinking that Jesus planned it all out and read the scripture and became the Saviour by acting.  He was and is the eternal God;  He fulfilled prophecy.  He could not be it all if He was not God and the miracles prove that.  Prophecy did not tell Him all He would do and be, only some main obvious facts and the essence of His ministry.

The next two scriptures show He was a descendant of Judah the son of Jacob.

Gen 49:10  “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

Heb 7:14  For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.

Jesus was the son of Judah.  Here we see the prophecy in the Old Testament and the fulfillment in the New Testament.  The Tribe of Judah had no priests and that’s where Jesus came from.  But they were a tribe of administrators and leaders and Jesus was a leader.  Mary’s blood was of the tribe of Judah and God could make Himself have any kind of blood.

2Sa 7:13  “He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

2Sa 7:14  “I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men,

Luk 1:32  “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

Luk 1:33  and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

Here we are trying to show that the Messiah, Jesus, was the son of David in the first two scriptures.  Then the fulfillment in the second two is shown.  He was the Son of David.  Solomon was the Son of David and God was talking about Solomon and the Messiah.  Everything in the first two scriptures God meant for both of them and in the last two for Jesus.

Some of these scriptures we have been studying can seem mighty unimportant but not when taken literally.  We can, not know, what they mean or know the importance of them.  But take the last one written: God is saying this is true- He will reign over the House of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.  All the verses have meaning even the most mundane.  It takes real discernment and observation to catch all of it.  It will take a lifetime.  But some have done this and recorded it and we can get advantage from it.  One person I can mention is Dr. Chuck Missler on YouTube.  It is almost all understood and soon it will become a reality to all.

Isa 11:2  The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

Mat 3:16  After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him,

Mat 3:17  and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”

Last of all we have the prediction that Jesus will receive the Holy Spirit as the Messiah and how He will receive it.  The Matthew 3: 16-17 the fulfillment of that prophecy.  Just a few inspired words from the prophets.  Working toward that the Bible is a reliable, valid document looking through the Messianic prophecies.  If they are true as stated the Bible is from God and trustworthy as to telling the truth about all.

But another question clouds my mind….., if you are thinking that Jesus could have play acted into the fulfilling of scripture by faking all the fulfillments of prophecy.  He couldn’t do anything about being born in Bethlehem.  In the end He could have told them He was born there and maybe they would have made Him king.  He didn’t want that.

He could not have planned the way He died and the drama surrounding it.  Or could He have; as God He could have if we were puppets.  People come up with all kinds of excuses when not wanting to obey God.

The Scriptures are reliable and these are just a few examples why.  In other messages there are other examples- so important to understanding the Word of God.  If men and women would read them they would have knowledge and understanding of God and how good He is.  The discipline of walking with Him is so much lighter than meditating long to train the mind.  It is as easy as talking to your best friend or a brother- easier actually.  With lovingkindness He listens and you sometimes you can feel the benefits of His Love.
