I was hurting for a subject but then in my reading I found this. It gave me a spark and I knew I had something to say about it. There is so much life in these writings and wherever the spirit moves that is where I can move the farthest and the fastest. Ten to twelve minutes on almost any subject in this book.
Psalm 8:1 For the choir director; on the Gittith. A psalm of David. O Lord, our lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens.
8:2 From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength because of your adversaries, to make the enemy and the revengeful cease.
8:3 When I consider your heavens the work of your hands, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;
8:4 What is man that you take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him.
8:5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the angels, and you crown him with glory and majesty.
8:6 You make him to rule over the works of your hands; You have put all things under his feet.
8:7 All sheep and oxen , and also the beasts of the field.
8:8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
8:9 O Lord our lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.

The first thing I want to talk about is the Gittith. It is a stringed instrument from Gath a city of the Philistines. David picked it up there when serving the king of that city and brought it back to play in worship songs. The Philistines migrated to the southwest coast of the South Mediterranean Sea from Caphtor or Crete it is thought. They had a superior army than Israel but GOD was with Israel. When the Philistines tried to expand their territory toward Jerusalem David and Saul fought them all too often. The Philistines eventually disappeared from the scene after a prophecy by GOD about them but they cost Israel many wars until Solomon’s reign.
Vs1. GOD’s name is majestic and it became world renowned after the Israelites freedom from Egypt. The mighty works of God in this country affected every nation in the known world. They were affected by the plagues physically and they heard about the power of God and feared Him. Some of the things that God’s name is synonymous with- there are 10 but I wrote down five: 1) God has no beginning, no end. 2) There is no reality outside of God, If He made it He wills it. 3) He is the self existent one and depends on nothing, no one. 4) Everything depends totally on God. The seasons and the life cycles have all been made by God. The way He made the solar system facilitates His provision for us. All our needs are met by this earth and the things that happened to it. The tilt of the earth on its access and the distance from the sun allow the seasons and to grow food. Allow solar energy and the birthing of animals, the recycling of waste and the renewing of other resources.
The fifth one is the creation is amazing. We can see that it is so fine tuned as to support life and so beautiful as to see the awesome creator and the intelligent design so that we know a supreme being has done this great feat of imagination. But it is after-all real .
Vs2. God has made this strength on the earth. David had enemies Jesus had enemies. But to silence them, like the Pharisees, God gave strength to the uneducated and powerless common people. Who did not have much abilities or talents to change their world, but, they believed that Jesus was a great prophet. So every time the Pharisees tried to arrest Jesus they could not. The multitude prevented them because they feared the multitude. Their lives were threatened by these people who believed and they would let no harm come to Him. The chief priests could not even disbelieve where Johns baptism came from in front of this large multitude that followed Jesus.
Vs3. Ordained means- appointed, instituted, established and even so far as invested in ministerial functions. Who can look at the stars and the moon without feeling some romance or heavenly feelings about the creation. The heavenly bodies have healing power to sooth the soul the mind and to captivate our attention with the other worldly.
Vs4. God cares for man. HE has made him the center of His universe. He thinks of us and has made us His very most important creation. He has made us to be in charge of this earth. He gave us a list of duties and responsibilities. He thinks we are capable to do this and to get ourselves out of the mess we are in.
Vs5. The liberal ones say we are a little lower than God and the conservatives lower than the angels. I prefer lower than the angels because I don’t put myself near to equal with God and I don’t pretend to be an angel. Though we are made in the likeness of God and the angels are not. In the New Jerusalem we will be like the angels with new bodies.
Vs6. We rule the creation, but everywhere we see destruction from what man has done. Nature has not kept pace with our resources running low and waste piling high. I don’t think we should make our goal utopia. Those do who think man will never end or who think that man has no place else to go. Basically don’t hope in those things but hope in heaven. Maybe we are thinking utopia now!! We all want that to be so. But after our lives are over it is really meaningless. It will mean nothing to us and what will our kids want? Who knows where it will go. God said seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto us.
So we have the dilemma between doing it ourselves or letting God. It is a spiritual kingdom and it is within you.
Vs7&8. So we are in control of all the beasts and the buildings and bridges, etc. We can follow the birds of the air and find out what the fish eat and where they go and how they survive the garbage and we can help their populations to grow and make habitats. That’s where we can see them near the paths of the ships. Ships go the same as the last ship and we see the fish and birds in their paths. But they are finding where the ships don’t go large, strange animals even like the Loch Ness monster. We can do a lot of stuff on and off the earth. But can we praise our God for giving us this home and can we be strong in the faith that God has made in His Son. Can we prepare a life for the new life? Most importantly can we live a life pleasing to God and Jesus being good stewards of the earth and Spirit? I pray we can and can make progress to bring sustainable energy and an improving habitat for man. But most of all we need to love God and our fellow man and to grow spiritually in the Lord Jesus, obeying Him and living a good life. In Jesus Name.
